Black Balsam

This shoot earned the title of being one of my most favorite shoots, for good reason, too. Every single time I take a look at these photos, they blow my mind! Tristan Brown and I headed up to Black Balsam Knob for a fashion/nature shoot and my expectations were met and exceeded. I mean, just look at that first photo, wow! I don't know how I'm going to be able to top that! Not only is Tristan a fabulous model, but she is also an amazingly talented photographer as well. Seriously, go check her work out, you'll thank me later.

I'm not joking when I say that it might have been literally freezing on Black Balsam. We shot in July, and by sunset, my hands felt like they were about the fall off. It was actually colder on top of the mountain in July than it is now in Asheville, in November. Tristan was such a trooper and looked beautiful in this dress by No Rest For Bridget.

I keep being drawn to these images over and over again. The use of contrasting as well as analogous colors pair exceptionally well with the repeated natural textures found in the dress as well as in the grasses and trees. I'm a firm believer in the importance of recognizing why an image works or doesn't work, and I know that it's helped me become a better photographer, as well as artist and designer. So, enough of my art school fancy-schmancy talk, and here's to more amazing shoots that inspire and refresh!

Thanks for reading!
